Some of the best vacuum cleaners have come out in the upright category over the last five years. With all the competition out there, brands have been manufacturing and marketing this kind of vacuum like crazy. So how do consumers manage to make this essential purchase? Well, one way is to judge the items by looking at an upright vacuum cleaner rating. Ratings can be from anybody, and this includes vacuum reviewers and consumers themselves. Also, if you are talking about ratings, some of the best rated vacuums can quite pricey.

Sebo X1

This product is a product of German engineering and is actually still considered a great purchase even at $500. Its major feature is automation which merits it a high upright vacuum cleaner rating. With this model, cleaners automatically know when it’s time to change dirt bags because the unit automatically stops when the old bag is full. It also has some other important and useful features such as its adjustable height, various controls, a filtration system and different brushes. This model is wonderful for serious heavy cleaning both at home and in the office. With all its features and more, Sebo X1 is definitely worth the price.

Sanitaire S782

Sanitaire probably has one of the best bargains for your wallet with products that do not cost more than $200 like its S782. Furthermore, it can probably get a usual high upright vacuum cleaner rating because it is both highly functional and portable. Its cord that measures 30 feet can get you through wide spaces and its manageable weight of 14 pounds will allow you to easily transfer it where you need it. Aside from these useful features, it also additionally shuts down when a dirt jam occurs. It has a collapsible handle and has twin motors. This is really a great alternative to more expensive brands and models.

Miele s163i

The products that have been put out by Miele in recent years are some of the highest quality by any brand. The s163i is a sleek little electric broom upright device that has a form and function that has earned it a high upright vacuum cleaner rating in any consumer’s book. Sporting 1000 watts of power, it is probably the strongest vacuum for its size and weight. What makes it special is that this vacuum can be broken down and used as a handheld vacuum for use in cars or in tight spaces. Not enough? Try this. For about $250 you can be assured of a great upright vacuum cleaner that will last you more than ten years of constant use.

If it’s an upright vacuum cleaner rating that will help you in your decision, make sure that you review the best features of some of the best brands first. Knowing what you will use the vacuum for will help you make the best purchase. Who knows? Maybe that product was mentioned here.

Wine hampers are gifts that are usually presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long history in Western culture and, previously, was done as a noble act, using the hamper to give food and other home necessities to the poor. The basket the hamper was presented in was also purposefully chosen as it was a handy household item that could be used and reused.

In later times, hampers have come to be less presents of necessities and more presents of little treats, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on premium items such as gourmet jams, quality chocolates, exotic coffee beans, fine wines and other quality items that can be had as a indulgence and will keep long enough for the recipient to take their time in using the item.

There has also been a growing fashion to make specialized UK hampers - wine hampers that are stacked with a wide range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more new innovation and are filled not with food but with handy and desired items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only limited by your imagination!

The flexibility of hampers is why it makes such a perfect present. They can be modified to any special someone and can be filled with whatever would satisfy your special someone. When picking the hamper you want to give, give careful consideration to what items your special someone wants - are they a wine lover? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a foodie? Then fill the hamper with quality food items. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with handy baby products.

Wine hampers can be used for any event - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Xmas.

The Xmas hamper has become all the rage and, in an intriguing twist, customers are buying Christmas hampers to use for themselves instead of as a gift for that special someone. Often filled with luxury Xmas treats such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Xmas pudding and even turkey, they are purchased by individuals to be used over the holiday season. Many UK hampers are purchased on a payment scheme over the year and then enjoyed for the Xmas period, helping people afford the price of the wonderful Xmas treats expected during the Christmas period.

There are lots of companies that specialize in offering hamper presents and many of them can be found quickly and simply on the internet. Many of them will have pre-packed hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may allow you to personalize a hamper and fill it with items of your choice. Almost all companies will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and personal present.

Of course, you don’t have to use a professional to make a wonderful hamper and it can be even more personal to create your own. When putting together a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Focus on helpful items and luxury products that your special someone might not think to buy for themselves, to make it even more considerate. Hampers also work best when filled with items that won’t spoil quickly, such as red wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on packing in items that have to be refrigerated or will spoil, then make sure the hamper is given as soon as possible and make sure your special someone knows that the products must be used quickly.

Oprah’s Favorite Things 2008 show which was aired on November 26th was very different from past year’s shows where Oprah gave the audience thousands of dollars in gifts. This year was very well done on how to enjoy your holidays and give gifts that won’t put you into debt.

The primary focus of this years Oprah’s Favorite Things 2008 was to show you how you can get through the holiday season without spending a ton of money. Oprah was very wise to do a show like this considering the financial state that the country is in and showing people some creative options to purchasing gifts and giving gifts that are more heartfelt.

The 2008 Oprah’s Favorite Things show was a mix of ideas for gifts, such as a Gratitude Box. Oprah says she started this tradition with her employees and friends years ago and to this day is something she still does. For as little as $2 you can make your own Gratitude box, depending on how simple or fancy you want to go and place heartfelt notes inside to the person you are giving it to. Can you imagine what a lovely gift this would be for someone to receive and reading words from the heart and how special that will make them feel.

One thing that Oprah did this year was to take her favorite artist’s holiday songs including Brian McKnight, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, Harry Connick Jr., “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”, Tony Bennett, “I’ll be Home for Christmas”, Il Divo, “O Holy Night” and many, many more of music’s greatest Christmas songs available for download along with all of the CD’s cover art at her website.

Another great gift idea from the Oprah’s Favorite Things 2008 show was a Treasure Box. They cost about $12 and inside you can put numerous keepsakes for your family, friends and children. You can buy some file folders and put them in there and date or tag them however you like. Inside the folders place special photos, report card, awards, anything you can think of that would mean something to that person. Start one for your best friend and then maybe they will add to the box and on different occasions you can give them something else to add to their Treasure Box.

Hot Chocolate becomes more popular as the temperature goes down. For just a little bit of cash you can make people a gift they will truly enjoy…Hot Chocolate Cones. Simply take a few moments to find a recipe online to make your own hot chocolate, add marshmallows and chocolate chips and place it all into decorative candy bags or piping bags found locally at a craft store. Then just decorate simply with a bow or some added ribbon for an added extra touch.

How about a Swap party? Have a themed one, and set a price that will be spent, or even a cookie swap etc. Have everyone bring a dozen cookies for each person attending, so if there are 8 people that come you bring 8 dozen cookies and leave with 8 dozen cookies, but have 8 different kinds. That way you don’t have to bake all those cookies. If you love to cook or have access to a garden you might want to make Gift Baskets of goodies that you prepared to give as gifts. How about some homemade blueberry jam, peanut brittle, cookies, add in some Holiday Chocolate cones, whatever you want to put in there I am sure your gift will be greatly appreciated and it’s another idea from Oprah’s Favorite Things 2008 that won’t break the bank.

If you watch Oprah, you know that she is an avid reader and has her own book club. One of Oprah’s Favorite Things 2008 is a book she has fallen in love with, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski”. This is an astonishing, mysterious, bewildering and profound novel.

There are many more gifts on Oprah’s Favorite Things 2008 list, starting at under $25 up to $100. Also there is Oprah’s All Time Favorites list of items from the past that remain her favorites. All in all you can have a really great Holiday season and not empty your wallet.

Gone are the days when the passion for jewelry rested with women alone. Nowadays, men are becoming as enamored with jewelry and accessories as they are with cars and gizmos. Jewelry designers have well woken up to the fact and are now offering exclusive and extensive men’s range of jewelry, ranging right from diamond-studded watches to bracelets, chains and pendants. In this section, we take a look on the latest developments in this trend along with the major newsmakers in this aspect.

The Beckham Story

Talking of men’s jewelry, David Beckham created ripples when he displayed a dazzling collection of men’s jewelry at his famous pre-World Cup party. England’s Ashley Cole, who arrived wearing only jewelry and no shirt under his dinner jacket, assisted him in his efforts.

This was further followed by a charity auction wherein Beckham showcased his exquisite diamond encrusted watch, created by Jacob Arabo. In addition, Beckham was also perhaps the first man to publicly wear two diamond earrings, placing men’s’ jewelry fashion firmly on the front stage and marking the onset of an amazing trend.

The New Scenario

Jewelry is no longer the domain of women only. Men have largely come to accept and recognize jewelry a symbol of class and style. Urban men, who like to appear trendy, are also taking to the ornaments to add a hip look to their appearances. The exclusive men’s’ jewelry showrooms have mushroomed in the last few years, catering to the growing need of the contemporary generation.

This trend is further accentuated by the portrayal of men supporting flashy pieces of jewelry in cinema. From the mafia kings carrying extravagant neckpieces, to the young lover wearing a kinky bracelet gifted by his fianc, men across all channels are being quick enough to adopt the trend.

In addition, where earlier gold was almost the only choice, nowadays platinum, diamonds and even stones rule the rooster. The likes of exclusive platinum or combination of metals, diamond encrusted rings and earrings dominate the scene, though smaller trinkets also appear in the picture. The entire trend gives enough reason to the jewelry and fashion industry to invest substantive resources in the men’s jewelry lines. By the look of it, in a few years time, it is quite possible that men’s jewelry will be available to suit all types of budgets and tastes, not just remaining as the exclusive domain of the rich and famous.

by Kurt Schilling

People are often confused about the economic conditions they are living in. Everything has a cool check about label, and the extremes are that either we are living in inflationary times or a period of deflation.

Deflationary times means it costs less to buy goods and services. The purchasing power of the buck increases and is able to buy more.

With deflation, almost everything goes down. Safety and protection is important and if you have all you money in antiques, real estate or hard assets or commodities the cost of these goods decreases.

The value of the U.S. dollar goes up in a deflationary environment. Quite the opposite of an inflationary environment.

When the price of the U.S. dollar increases, it also increases against foreign currencies. The dollar buys more.

Check the measure of value of the dollar in your personal purchases. Is the dollar’s value is going up? It’s buying more gas than it used to, buys more real estate than it used to, and gets better deals shopping for cars than before. Everything costs less.

If most things seem to be not as expensive that means you are living in deflationary times. If the price of goods and services are going up, you live in inflationary times.

The coolest, cool personal checks for the safest place to have you money in deflationary times in Treasury bills. The least ugly investment worldwide is U.S. currency.

Little girls do love their dolls. They love to play and dress them and take them places, as if they really were their mommies.

by Edie Mindell

Little girls do love their dolls. They love to play and dress them and take them places, as if they really were their mommies.

I have a daughter that first began her love affair, with a certain doll, when she was only 18 months old. The relationship was a bit rocky at first as my little mommy pulled her baby’s hair and competed with the doll for bottle and binky use. Yet as the weeks passed the love my baby had for her baby grew to complete devotion.

She fondly named the baby doll Bah-Bah-Toe (don’t ask, I don’t know) and they have been inseparable now for several years. The cementing moments of the relationship occurred when Bah-Bah-Toe was given her own dollhouse. At first this was a humble dwelling that consisted of nothing more than a few cardboard boxes stacked and taped together.

At Christmas time that year, when my daughter was 2, the idea of getting her a brand new doll was down right blasphemous. Bah-Bah-Toe reigns supreme. One evening as my husband and I observed our little mommy lovingly reciting a story to her precious baby and tenderly tucking her into one of those cardboard rooms it struck us: Bah-Bah-Toe needs a real house.

Finding the perfect dollhouse for our daughter and her baby was not too difficult but was a decision that required some care. There are so many options out there. The first thing to consider is size. In our case the house needed to be able to inhabit the doll we already had. For those who may still need to populate the new residence the size concern is moot. Yet size is still an issue. Tall dollhouses pose a tipping threat and a climbing temptation for little ones. The last thing you want is the dollhouse to become memorable because of your child’s King Kong impression and the ensuing trip to the ER.

Dollhouses that are overly intricate, ornate or small similarly don’t work for toddlers. Those gorgeous Victorian ones are great, but a toddler will destroy it before the sun sets on Christmas day. Those with fine detail and small furnishings also pose a choking hazard. What a toddler needs is a dollhouse that isn’t too big, and isn’t too small. There are several varieties on the market that your daughter will be thrilled to call her own.

Many dollhouses come with just that: the house. Other brands come with a load of extras including play figures, furniture and clothing for the dolls. Price and your existing collection of accessories is a great way to decide what you need for your daughter’s Christmas wishes to come true. If you have many dolls already, then a house by itself is probably the way to go. For those just beginning their doll collections, a house that comes with extras will have a higher price tag up front, but when you factor in the cost of buying extra pieces separately, it might be the better deal.

Our little mommy has grown so much we hardly recognize the 2 year old who squealed with delight as she tucked a baby named Bah-Bah-Toe into her new house for the first time. Yet she still loves that doll, and her dollhouse where her doll baby lives.

What joy she has gotten from those toys and what a great investment they have been in the growing of her imagination.

Confusion always results when users of Canon EOS camera tries to use the various modes available without trying to understand how they work. This is because the Canon EOS Camera has different modes like AV (Aperture Priority), TV (Shutter Priority), Program (P) and Manual (M) mode to handle its operations. The differences in they way they handle flash illumination is more obvious especially when the ambient light is low. This guide will give you a brief rundown on the various modes so that you will have a better understanding. We are also assuming that the FP mode of the camera is not turn on.

The Program (P) Mode:

Under the P mode, when the ambient light is low, the camera will be set to a high shutter speed to enable you to use the camera without a tripod stand. This is to enable you to avoid “motion blur” even though you are holding the camera with your hand. The P mode will work when the ambient light is low or high. When the ambient light is high, the camera makes the assumption that you will flash fill the foreground. Thus the flash will be low powered. If the ambient light is low, the camera will under the P mode will set the flash and the shutter speed appropriately to give the best possible result. Having said so, pictures taken under this condition will normally have a dark background.

Shutter Priority (TV) Mode

With the camera in TV mode, the shutter speed will be adjusted by you instead. The camera will only determine the appropriate aperture priority to accommodate the shutter speed that you have chosen to ensure that the exposure level is right. The duration of the Flash pulse will also be determined by the flash metering system. Under the TV mode, the Camera will also be operating the flash in flash fill mode. The EOS system will warn you if the background is too dark. This warning will be indicated by a blinking maximum aperture value in the camera viewfinder. When this is the case, you have to slow down the shutter speed and use a tripod to prop up the camera in order to avoid motion blur.

Aperture (AV) Priority Mode

If you are using the Aperture priority mode, you can determine the camera depth of field (DOF) when you adjust the lens aperture. What the camera will do instead is to adjust the shutter speed to expose the background to the right exposure. The duration of the flash pulse will be determined by the camera flash metering system as well. Pay attention that the shutter speed is set low or not. If the shutter speed is set low, you will need to use a tripod to hold the camera. Otherwise, you will end up with pictures which are blurred because of motion. Here in this mode, the camera will also work in fill flash mode just like under TV mode. Canon has several camera models which possesses a function which allows you to synchronize the X-Sync speed to the Shutter speed. The models which have this function are the Canon Elan II/ EOS 50 and the EOS10/10s.

Manual (M) Exposure Mode

Under this mode, you will specify both the shutter and aperture speed of the camera. You will also determine the exposure setting of the camera. The camera will, through the flash metering system, calculate the flash output to illuminate the fore-ground.

If you are looking for a massage chair, then you will see many massage chairs claiming to be a shiatsu massage chair. There is a lot of confusion as to what constitutes a true shiatsu style massage chair. First we need to understand the actual massage therapy technique, then we can better evaluate if a chair really fits into this category.

To trace the origins of shiatsu massage, one has to go back to China. The Chinese healers found the use of acupuncture. These practice identified pressure points in the body that assisted to speed up healing and reduce pain. The Japanese took this basic art and developed acupressure points. By applying firm pressure in these pressure points, the energy of the body could be regulated. hey began to correlate certain pressure points with relief in different parts of the body which formed the basis of shiatsu massage therapy.

Traditional shiatsu massage incorporates both kneading with the thumbs and fingers and chopping action with the sides of the palms. Kneading was found to stretch out tight muslces making them more elastic. This help to restore flexibility and improve the range of motion. Chopping massage was found to invigorate an given area to enhance blood circulation. The chopping action helps to loosen tight muscles which then make it easier to perform the kneading massage. The use of pressure point massage helps the major organs relax while the kneading and chopping work on relaxing the muscles.

With this background in shiatsu massage therapy, we can now look at massage chair recliners that provide this type of techniques. Some of the premier massage chair brands like Panasonic, Omega and Sanyo have chairs that meet these parameters. Many of these chairs have sensors to detect your acupressure points. The software then adjusts the massage to target your individual pressure points. Some of the best massage chair recliners providing shiatsu massage therapy are presented here.

The Panasonic EP30004 Real Pro Ultra creates a virtual map of your back. It takes into consideration the curvature of your spine and shoulder height. This chair also comes with an ultra-fine kneading function called Junetsu. Junetsu uses small circular motions that reverberate to the bone to provide muscle invigoration and relaxation. These massage techniques are particularly effective for the whole back region. The Junetsu is a unique massage only incorporated in the Panasonic chair.

Sanyo has developed a shiatsu lower body massage therapy. The Sanyo system targets multiple pressure points in the leg and foot. The pressure points are applied firm pressure which helps relieve stress and enhance energy flow throughout the body. Additionally, the tactically placed air bags provide a comforting and thorough air compression massage.

Some massage chairs have taken shiatsu massage and elevated into higher dimensions. Take the Montage Premier by Omega. This chair brings in the dimension of sound with the MP3 music player. Put on the headphones and let the music soothe your mind. Meanwhile, add full body heat or individual area heat to reduce swelling and ease aches and pains. Or add some traditional shiatsu lower body stretching. The Montage Premier incorporates a lower body traction that elongates the whole lower body for comprehensive relief.

Now you are an expert in shiatsu massage therapy as applied to massage chairs. This is an important massage therapy used throughout the globe. If you are researching robotic chairs, then start with the best brands like Sanyo, Panasonic or Omega. These shiatsu massage chairs provide therapeutic massage and other therapies.

Take it to the web for an entirely different holiday shopping experience Now that we have explored the material world of traffic, long check out lines and swelling crowds it is time to enter an entirely different kind of shopping jungle. This is Holiday Shopping Diva here with a whole new shopping subject and a bag of tricks to guide even the least computer savvy shopper to cyber success this holiday season.

Christmas on the Block

Ok, first things first - just because you are facing a computer screen instead of an intimidating mob of shoppers does not mean the competition is any less fierce. In some ways it is more so, but don’t let that frighten you.

Heading to the online auctions to shop is a great way to stretch your dollar, avoid post office messes, and find a wider variety of toys in one spot. That being said you still need to prepare. The list, the research and the stakeout are all still important. This initial work will allow you to get down to the nitty-gritty of defending your bid when the time comes.

Gone Shopping

With your list and exact toy needs in mind it is time to head to the auction sites to find little Billy’s first toddler bike. Having done the research means you know exactly what you want and this increases your odds of finding it among the thousands of cyber offerings listed as toddler bike. Once you have zeroed in on the target, place your bid. Timing is often very important. You can put the toys you wish to observe in a special ‘watch’ list. This allows you to keep a close eye on the toy without placing a bid. It is a good idea to watch an item before officially placing your bid. This is especially true for auctions that still have several days before they close or for toy items that are likely to be popular.

As you watch your list, keep track of similar toys and their selling prices. This will help you know what you can expect a winning bid to be.

Going once, going twice and sold! To nannygoo124

As you compile your watch list one of the most important things you need to decide is what your maximum bid will be. Remember as you calculate how much you are willing to spend on Suzie’s custom step stool, remember to account for shipping. It is easy to get carried away in the excitement of last minute bids and end up spending way more than you had intended.

Near the end of the auction place your bid. If the auction site has an automatic re-bid system it is a good idea to use it. This allows you to set your top price and then if you are out bid the site will automatically re-bid on your behalf until your top price is reached.

As the auction time is close to finishing, now is the time to be hyper vigilant. Don’t turn your back on your item for even a minute in the final 15 minutes of the auction or you may lose it. Shopping the auction adds an element of fun to Christmas shopping you won’t find elsewhere and you don’t have to fix your hair to get it!

It takes a bit of time to find the good deals, using auctions and if you have the extra time, it could be worth it.
