If Oprah Winfrey has her way Universalism will dominate religious discourse. By advent of her extreme popularity and influence now even in the political arena, Christians may be shamed into accepting her worldview or at least to be silent about their own. She called Barack Obama “The One” and helped propel him to the White House.

Barack and Michelle Obama have been friends with Oprah for a long time. They agree with her philosophy of many paths to God. The Obama’s say they are followers of Christ. Their former pastor and also Oprah’s pastor for awhile was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Rev. Wright taught them the Biblically errant concept of black liberation theology. Rev. Wright also taught that Jesus is NOT the only way of salvation, that that hell doesn’t exist, and that practicing homosexuals will still go to heaven. Oprah is no longer attending Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church, but she is now promulgating New Age philosophies using her magazine, radio, and television as a platform.

Once of Oprah’s sources of truth is A Course in Miracles. It purports that sin is fictitious. This concept makes room for behaving however one sees fit. This is relativism of a moral nature. What you call sin may not be sin to me. Therefore, a woman’s right to choose is more powerful than the baby’s right to live in her womb.

The Bible is clear concerning the issues of the life of the unborn child, Homosexual acts, and living together before marriage. Passages relating to these important Christian values are not based on “obscure” scriptures as Barack Obama has mentioned in his book, The Audacity of Hope. Yet, the philosophy of Oprah and Obama is permeating our culture with a vengeance. Traditional Christianity is viewed by these pundits as old fashion, out dated, and ignorant. Christians are being led astray and coerced into silence or compliance by the mere fact of a media or political person’s powerful communication abilities.

In my new book, The Oprahfication of Our Culture, I call this acquiescence cultural Christianity. The time has come for followers of Christ to avoid accommodation by being “uncultured” Christians. Believers must refuse to draw back into our storm shelters and complain. Be vocally confident about your morals and values! Take a stand and no matter what happens, keep standing! Don’t be browbeaten into reticence.

Are we still a center/right country or are we progressing more toward the fanatical left in philosophy? Three states, California, Arizona and Florida, just attested conservative values by passing constitutional amendments maintaining traditional marriage as being between a man and a woman, a real setback to the homosexual program. Yet, lawsuits have been sponsored in California to try and annul the will of the people. Is a preacher open game for litigation by instigators who provoke him to quote the Bible from his podium, because their analysis of scripture is that of “hate speech?” Does the Bible contravene certain suppositional civil rights? Do those civil rights abolish the freedom of speech and of religion we have rejoiced in for over two hundred years in our distinguished country? Is America sliding down a slippery slope?

It seems that the prophet Isaiah perceived this period in our history when he said, Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 The Amplified Bible

Things seem to be flipped on their heels. Christian believers are portrayed as hate mongering bigots for simply opposing “politically correct” views of the cultural elites in New York, Washington and Hollywood. In spite of these very outspoken, well funded, radical, left leaning voices, Christians are instructed to be watchmen on the wall and sound the alarm (Mark 13:35-37). The Word of God is not hate speech. It is the standard of righteousness in an increasingly dark world. Don’t be silent. Watch, pray and say. Speak up for truth.

Several months ago, I was preparing for a Sunday sermon on thanksgiving. The Lord brought to my attention the Samaritan leper’s thanksgiving recorded in Luke 17 verses 11 to 19. This is a very familiar story among Christians. The story goes like this, there were 10 Samaritan lepers who asked Jesus for mercy. Jesus told them to show themselves to the priest. While going there, they found out that they were healed. Sadly, only one of them came back to thank Jesus.

Being a firm believer in expository preaching, I dug deep into the greek words used in the text. I looked up the greek words for “Thanks.” The word here is the word “eucharisteo.” This is where we get our word for “Eucharist.” Eucharisteo is also the same word used in the Gospels when Christs gives thanks for a meal. In the Epistles, the apostle Paul often uses this same word

Eucharisteo can basically be broken down into two words. “Eu” to mean good or well and “charis” which means to favor, thank or to respond to a good favor. This word is also used as the verb form of “favor” or “Charis” in Greek. Often, the word “Charis” is translated as “Grace” in English.

Looking back at the story and the greek words used, you can clearly see the message that the message that our Lord is trying to convey here. The Lepers were asking for “Mercy” but only one leper got “Grace.”

Oftentimes we interchange “Mercy” for “Grace.” We usually think that they mean the same thing. However take note that there is a difference between them. Mercy is not getting what you deserve. Grace on the other hand is getting what you don’t deserve. Because we are sinners, we deserve to go to Hell. But because God is merciful, we are spared from the punishment of eternal damnation. Recieving the gift of eternal life on the other hand could only come because of grace. We do not deserve forgiveness of sin nor do we deserve eternal life, nevertheless we received it because of God’s GRACE.

The Bible says in Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8 and 9 says that we are saved “by Grace through faith . . . it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast” The gift referred to here is “Saving faith.” What this verse is simply saying is that the faith to believe was given to us by God. By ourselves alone we do not have the ability to believe God by faith because of our fallen state. What we only have is natural faith. In order to know Christ we must have “supernatural faith.”

What a joy to know that God gave us “Supernatural faith” in order to truly believe. We should respond to Him in thanksgiving. Certainly, it is not because we have the natural ability to believe in Christ that we received the gift of salvation. We received the gift of salvation because of Him alone and Him alone.

Now let me continue with the story of the Ten Lepers. The Samaritan Leper was so thankful to Jesus Christ that he “turned back and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks”

The Bible says that Jesus asked him saying, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? There are none found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.”

I love the closing statement of the story. Jesus says to him, “Arise; go thy way. Thy faith hath made thee whole.” What He is saying to the Samaritan Leper is that “Your faith has saved you.”

Truly, the Samaritan Leper got more than what he asked for. He asked for mercy but he got grace instead and with that salvation. Being truly thankful is certainly is worth it !

What is a Masquerade Brigade?
The Masquerade Brigade is similar to the New Orleans concept of a krewe, but much less structured for now. Carnaval Santa Fe masquerade brigades are composed of people in costume who walk through the streets, go out for lunch or dinner, and attend any of the Santa Fe social (or non!) events while dressed in costume. The Carnaval Santa Fe! masquerade brigades will assemble for the first time of the year on Thursday, November 11th at 1:11 p.m.Ed Neal told me that Tobe Hooper had most props and other equipment (including the original 2 reels of film) in a storage room in Austin, TX. Tobe’s mother got tired of paying the rent on the storage facility and put the box(es) out on the curb to be thrown away. Ed picked up the items for himself. He said that he kept a few items but a lot of it went to the Humanities Research Department of UT Austin.
Chuck Swindoll, the beloved Christian author and pastor, is best known for his teaching on the evangelical doctrine of grace. The Grace Awakening, Dr. Swindoll’s magnum opus on the topic, is embraced worldwide. Many believers do not know, however, that Chuck Swindoll named this book after the famous worldwide revival known as “The Great Awakening.” On the second page of his introduction Dr. Swindoll wrote:

When the eighteenth-and early nineteenth-century revival spread across Great Britain and into America, preached fervently by John Wesley…and a handful of other risk-taking spokesmen for God, it was again grace that led the way… Interestingly, that sweeping movement came to be known as “The Great Awakening.” What I am sensing these days is yet another awakening in the genre of those history-making movements. Perhaps it is best defined as “The Grace Awakening,” a message whose time has come (The Grace Awakening, p. xiv, xv).

By claiming foundational similarities between The Grace Awakening and John Wesley’s message during The Great Awakening Dr. Swindoll surely fortifies the theme of his book. While some theologians might consider Swindoll’s comparison exaggerated such doctrinal harmony is significant if it is true, BUT is it true?

Though John Wesley’s views on grace and freedom in Christ are readily available to anyone who is interested Chuck Swindoll offers not even one quote to substantiate his alleged agreement with Mr. Wesley. Why? Because John Wesley never taught these foundational, biblical themes as Chuck Swindoll defines them.

Chuck Swindoll says that The Grace Awakening is a book emphasizing the “full extent of grace” (The Grace Awakening p. xv). According to Chuck Swindoll, however, “grace” means that no human “work” (good or bad) ever has any bearing on whether or not a professing Christian finally enters the eternal kingdom of God. The following are a mere fraction of what is readily available from Dr. Swindoll on grace and saving faith:

In other words, salvation is not by faith alone… [ellipsis in original] it requires works. Human achievement must accompany sincere faith before you can be certain of your salvation. We continue to hear that “different gospel” to this day and it is a lie. It is heresy (The Grace Awakening).

Christ’s blood has cleansed us from our sin, we are gloriously free - free to please Him. But we don’t have toThe Grace Awakening p. 140).

To say that John Wesley never taught anything close to what Swindoll believes to be a sound understanding of grace and saving faith would be an understatement. Yet, Chuck Swindoll bolsters his teaching in The Grace Awakening by dropping John Wesley’s name. Now, either Dr. Swindoll has never read Wesley or he is purposely misusing his good name-you decide. Here is but a sample from John Wesley whom Dr. Swindoll dubs a “risk-taking spokesman for God:”

If good works do not follow our faith, even all inward and outward holiness, it is plain our faith is worth nothing; we are yet in our sins (Sermon: The Law Established Through Faith).

That works are a necessary condition of our justification…I say the same thing: None are finally saved, but those whose faith “worketh by love” (Letter to Dr. Horne, 1762).

Swindoll believes that it is heresy and a lie to teach that good works must accompany saving faith. John Wesley, however, plainly asserts this very heresy and lie. Still, Swindoll uses Wesley to establish his mistaken notions leaving the inexperienced reader with the idea that The Grace Awakening and The Great Awakening are built on the same doctrinal foundation-which they are not. Chuck Swindoll is free to teach grace any way he so desires, but to do so in the good name of John Wesley or The Great Awakening is dishonest.

I have always been a hero of sorts, my deeds are lightning quick, fixed and unyielding, equally, so shall I die. There is no question of vanquish and none what so ever of victory. Shall I never give ground from a good fight, when it never crossed my mind before? In every attempt there are catastrophe and triumph. Something deep within me tells me that to live in cowardice is sure to bring about demise and be reawaken as a lowly pest such as a maggot. Cowardice offers no escape, although the eons may pass away with full recompense. Therefore, shall I be censured as a lowly maggot?

In my eyes this world is mere play - and it will always remain as such. Should one spend six long months brooding over the questions of honour and disgrace, gain and loss pertaining to this? . . . I am a man of action. Simply advice upon advice is being given - this one says this, that one says that; again that man threatens, and this one frightens! This life is not, in my view, such a sweet thing that I would long to live through so much care and caution and fear.

Money, life, friends, and relatives, and the love of men and myself - if one wants to enter into work fully assured beforehand of all these - if one has to be so much ridden with fear, then one will get just what Gurudeva used to say, “The crow thinks itself very clever but it cannot help eating filth - well, he will get that. -Swami Vivekananda

I want to share a special story with you today.

In southern India, there was a steep, rocky high mountain. No one had ever climbed to the top of this mountain. However, one day 100 souls committed themselves to reach the mountaintop. They were clueless of the time it would take to reach the summit. However, they each were determined for success. To begin with, they all helped each other. However as the days passed them by, there were some who were better able to cover more ground and left the others behind.

The man who was ahead of everyone was very happy and pleased that he had beaten everyone. He was surging ahead with a rapid pace, determined to reach to the top of the mountain before anyone else. The other people in the group were also equally resolved to succeed. They looked upon this man, knowing his reputation, for inspiration and motivation. They talked at length about him his character, his confidence and personality, and admired him.

Everyday they ascended further as each was able to cover ground sufficiently and making great progress. As their journey progressed months and years began to pass away, however they persisted. The man in the lead was able to see the mountaintop from a distance. However, it seemed to him that the more ground that he covered towards the summit, the more ground he had to cover. Upon gazing at the height he had already gained he was filled with an immense sense of confidence and satisfaction concerning the distance he had mastered. In the mean time, the distance between him and his companions grew even wider according to each individuals progression.

There was a small child in the village who was watching all this. His dad was part of the group and ten years had passed by and his dad had not yet returned home. He was desperate to see him again. But no one could fulfill his wish. His mother had no clue of the whereabouts of his father. This child began to ask all the elderly people for advice but no one could really help him. Finally, the child met a wise old man who told him that a huge river flowed behind the vast mountain with a beautiful island at the other end of the river. “Your dad might be in that beautiful island,” the old man said. “I can show you a way to reach that island in a week’s time. But you have to cross a thick dense forest.”

The child was beside himself with joy. He was determined and bold and wholeheartedly agreed to cross the dark forest in order to meet his father.

The old wise man wrote two words upon a paper and told the boy that on the third day of his forest journey that he would meet someone. He instructed the boy to give the paper to the person he met and that they would help him go to meet his father.

Excitedly, the boy asked the wise man for a blessing and then took the note and started out towards the forest.

On the third day of he met a stranger in the forest. The boy immediately gave the not to the stranger. As soon as the stranger read the note, he captured the boy, slapped him several times and then tied him to a tree. The boy began to cry, he was hungry and was confused about the whole ordeal. He thought this person would be of help in meeting his father, but instead the man had beat and bound him. The boy cried bitter tears.

The stranger was the leader of a tribal community, he informed the boy that noon tomorrow that he would be killed and offered up as a sacrifice to the God of the Forest. The stranger paid the boy no mind as he pleaded for mercy and release.

The boy wondered why the wise man would be so cruel as to lie to him,, and wondered why he would do him this way. He wept and then soon fell fast asleep. A vision came to him as God appeared before him. The boy told God of the happenings in his life, with tears rolling down his face. He then asked God for help.

As God knelt down and took the boy in his arms, he whispered two words into his ears and told him to repeat these words to the strange the next morning and that he would be released and go to meet his father. With this he kissed the boy and bid him farewell.

At the break of dawn the tribal leader arrived. The little child’s face beamed as he smiled. He uttered the two words as he was instructed to do

Amidst the piles of Christmas decorations, I suddenly land upon the most treasured tradition of them all. “The Book”, as it is now known to all in our family, brings an immediate smile to my face. Joy, laughter and love fills my heart as the timeless memories of these favored stories flood my mind.

Throughout my childhood, and well into my teens, my mother would beckon my sister and I to gather around to listen to one of our most loved Christmas stories. For our family, this was the best Christmas had to offer. Peace and quiet spreading throughout the house, my mother’s loving voice carrying our thoughts off to far away places, the masterful words in these classic stories bringing the heart of Christmas home.

This tradition is perhaps the most loved by everyone in our family. Season after Season, we would bring out the “most loved book”. Season after Season the stories became more rich with meaning.

These classic tales are rich with moral values, connecting oneself to a deeper understanding of the human condition. Each story has a magical twist that inspires and fortifies the soul. As I have grown, so has my appreciation for the meanings found in these story. I am ever thankful that my mother had the insight to read these stories over and over, allowing my understanding of these stories to grow as I grew.

I am grateful to my mother for understanding that children never outgrow the love of hearing a story read aloud. As she infused the passages with passion and meaning, my sister and I strengthen our resolve to train our own voices to speak with conviction and clarity.

As another Holiday approaches, I joyfully unpack the “Most Loved Christmas Book”. The tradition continues as I anxiously thumb through the pages, considering which of the stories will be read first this Season. As I breath deeply and fully, I am overwhelmed by the awareness that the true Spirit of Christmas as been re-awaken within me. It’s going to be a wonderful Christmas this year. After all, it’s “tradition”.

Not long back I had a retired Pastor reprove me very sharply, for making some interesting points while preaching on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. He was very old school, and he referred to 1 Tim 1.4 “nor to be taken up with with myths and never ending genealogies.. ”

He answered “No”, when I asked him if I had said anything that was heretical. I went on to quietly explain that that particular Scripture was referring to the false teachings and philosophy of Gnosticism, not of genuine enquiry. He could not accept it.

You would think that with 40 years experience this past and would have had some understanding of what Paul was referring to in this letter and the problem of Gnosticism. We have a problem here, how can a congregation understand these things either and be able to interpret their Bible?

Tragically, a large proportion of pastors preach light weight messages, are so very shallow so that the congregation hardly grow in the Bible and interpretation skills. Pastors love to preach ‘moral essays’ and ‘warming affirmations’ because, if we truly ‘love’, others, this is what we will do.

Well, who cares if God’s people are falling through the cracks ‘for a lack of knowledge’ (oracle), what’s really important, is if we are very positive and ‘nice’ to everybody.

Think about it, the more ‘relevant’ Christians become, to the world, the less relevant christians are in reality, to the world.
Our staple diet from pastors seems to be favorite topics and ‘feel good’ messages. Ministers preach on a verse from 1 Peter as well as a passage about a hero from 1 Kings; topical sermon from Hosea and then the belief in God of Aaron or the humanity of King David.

After preaching portions from here and from there, through the Bible we need then to put it all together in a clear, understandable way for our congregation.

Constantly we are bombarded with new publications and modernist ideas, some of them dangerously leaning toward Liberal theology. We are repeating history, but if we were to teach the basics of Church history, we would be more equipped to avoid repeating that history.

Let us correctly prepare the Church to understand God and the Bible, but piecing together the fragments of his Word into a beautiful seamless mosaic.

This is not difficult to attain, if we put in some good prayer and study.

John 17:17 Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. (NAB)

Psychic mediums chat online to people from all over the world. Years ago the psychic hotline used to take over and people used to be able to get psychic readings from psychic mediums in the privacy of their own home. Now you can actually get a psychic reading from a psychic chat online company. This can defintely help you to connect with a psychic medium that can see into the future for you. As you learn about a psychic medium reading, you can actually learn more about yourself in the process. You don’t have to learn about yourself in any other way that doesn’t make sense to you. Only try to learn about things that are most important to you. Learn about yourself through getting psychic readings and meditating.

A psychic medium actually goes into a trance like state to pick up accurate information for you. They meditate and learn directly how to influence your life in such a way that can actually help you to learn more about yourself and to discover something new within you. You can learn about who you are as a person by connecting with a psychic. If you want to learn about deceased relatives, then you should defintely connect with a psychic medium online or through the telephone.

A psychic medium can often pick up on certain ailments that your loved deceased one may have experienced while they were heare on earth. They may also pick up on the fact that you are worrying to much about them and how to help yourself from worrying. Many people worry about their deceased and departed when they die because everyone wants to know what happens to us when we die. It’s not an easy task to figure out what happens to us when we die because the dead don’t come back to life and talk to us. We have to rely on ancient traditiions and even current ones that are available to us. When we look at ourselves in the mirror, we have to learn about who we are and actually why we believe that we became the person that we have become. By doing this, we actually help our psychic intuitiion to get stronger for a psychic mediumship reading.

A psychic medium can really channell in on your deceased departed when you are fully focussed and understand your own inner intuition. You have to try and take things one step at a time in order to learn more about yourself and others. Don’t be alarmed if you really don’t know what to say during a psychic reading because most people don’t. As the psychic medium is reading for you, just try to sick back and relax. Try to focus on something that you know to be true. Don’t focus on anything negative because this can distract a psychic medium from you.

Learn more about yourself from a full time psychic medium. A psychic medium doesn’t only pick up on the dead, but they also pick up on the living and to what is actually happening in your life. You can learn a lot from yourself by listening to a psychic or a psychics message. Try to learn from the spiritual world so that you can better understand yourself and that which is around you. Try to surround yourself with good people so that you understand the benefits of learning from people that can actually love and care about you. Learning more about a psychic medium is actually very beneficial for you when it comes to understanding your true psychic nature. As you look back at yourself, try to remember that you are in charge of your own spiritual powers and to that which surrounds you daily!

Psychic readers are often asked to give different types of psychic abilities for clients that call the psychic telephone line. Men and women that are often seeking a list of psychic abilities are doing it for several different reasons. Some are doing it because they are trying to play the game of, test the clairvoyant psychic? and others are doing it because they really do not know what they are looking for or even seeking. There are literally millions of lost souls in the world today and some people do not know how to communicate their feelings to others in a way that is helpful and that makes total sense. When you look at yourself in the mirror, you must ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing at the time.

Some psychic readers believe that they are helping someone to find answers for their problem or situation that they are having during a live psychic reading. The reason why you give psychic readings are far different. Some people do it for the cash and others do it because they really want to help someone out there. For some, being a psychic clairvoyant reader is a true calling. It is something that they always felt called to do all of their life and now they are practicing it. There is an old saying that says, ?Where God guides, He provides.? Sometimes we are called to take a break from doing psychic readings and during that time God may put you on vacation from doing readings. If you feel like your psychic business has gone down the toilet, then it may be time for you to take a break. During your break, you may be able to go back to school to study or to simply learn more about your psychic gift.

If you are like the great Edgar Cayce, then psychic clairvoyant readings are the way in which you earn your full time living. Edgar Cayce was a psychic during his day and He earned his living by doing psychic readings for people. He didn?t charge any set fee for his psychic readings. He instead depended upon donations from people who came to him for psychic readings. However, this also put a financial strain on Edgar Cayce and his family. Taking donations for psychic readings is one way that you can earn money for using your gift. However, this is not always the best option since most people will tell you that they don?t have any money or they will give you a $1.00 for a full length reading. You have to do what is financially able for you to do. Some psychics have full time jobs outside of doing psychic readings and only do psychic readings on the weekend when their off from their regular jobs.

It?s important for you to pray and to ask God what His will is for you to do. Some psychics spend half of their lives working a regular job and then start doing psychic readings professionally when they are well into their late 30?s and early 40?s. There is not right or wrong time to get involved with conducting psychic readings. The most important thing for you to do is to do a psychic reading when you feel like you are ready, able and willing to do them. Some people spend years in preparation for the psychic ministries. Some people don?t understand their own psychic gift when they first start out and that?s ok. Just try to take things one step at a time.

When a client asks you to do a general psychic reading, then tell the client exactly what you are seeing without worrying about if they are going to like your psychic reading or not. It?s important for you to accept that you are called to be a psychic to give people that they may not understand right away. Prophesy is not supposed to be always understood. What?s important is that walk in your calling no matter what your circumstances are.

by Jack Levine

The original deck of tarot cards was created in the northern part of Italy in the fifteenth century. The reason for its creation according to documents is for a new card game that was invented at the same time. The game is called Triumphs and it was played in a similar manner to the game bridge.

That first deck of cards contained all of the cards that we are familiar with in a standard deck of cards but it also had the addition of the twenty-two trump cards that we would recognize as the cards of the tarot. Each of these cards had a special place in the game and would be able to trump any other card when it was played.

It is theorized that the game was invented for the Duke of Milan. There is a book that was created to accompany the deck, but interestingly, it does not give the rules of the game. The only information that is contained in the book is the meanings behind the symbols and their ranking in the game. It also does not give any prophetic or divination meaning to the cards.

When the cards were first introduced, the divination meanings that we associate with the cards today were not ever mentioned. No one during this time attributed these cards to any other purpose than the playing of a game. It was only centuries later that the cards began to be seen in this light.

The cards changed in their look as they moved from country to country. Every region added their own touch to the designs on the tarot deck. In the time when the cards were created, playing cards, as well as the tarot deck, were hand painted. If the cards exist today, they are artistic masterpieces and very valuable relics from a time gone by.

When you purchase tarot cards today, you will find that there are a number of different styles of cards to choose from. The number of the cards and the particular tarot or trump cards is the same in every deck, but what are different are the symbols and pictures that are used to represent the meanings. Tarot cards are very beautiful and make an excellent item to collect.

There have also been many spreads of the tarot created since they achieved their status as a psychic tool. The spread is the pattern that the cards are laid out. Each spread has its unique benefits and is appropriate for a particular type of reading. Depending on the type of questions you are asking the psychic, she will choose a particular spread for your reading.

As the cards moved from country to country, they began to be changed in their appearance. Every region put its own representation of the tarot deck out for the public display. These hand painted decks of cards are true artistic wonders and should be viewed if you get a chance.
