Would it surprise you to learn that the Persian cat is considered to be one of the oldest breeds of cats, although not everybody entirely believes this. Most people however do believe that the Persian cat originated in the country known as Persia which is now modern-day Iran.

It is believed that in 1620 Persians were first introduced into Italy and at about the same time they were also introduced into France, and this does seem to fit with all the documented history that we have of the Persian cat.

From France it is thought that the Persian was introduced into Britain, although at this time they did not have the long hair that we know of today. What happened is that they were bred in Turkey with the Turkish Angora cat, and this is where the long hair comes from. It does need to be pointed out that a lot of people think that the Persian was bred with the African wildcat and this is where their long hair came from.

What everybody does agree upon is that these cats are highly valued. They have always had a rarity value and they have always been the first choice of royalty. And actually at one time it was only royalty, and the wealthy that owned a Persian cat.

It has to be said that not everybody shares the same beliefs as regards the introduction of the Persian cat some people believing that it was in fact a descendant of Felis Libyca, a cat that originated from Africa and Asia. They also believe that it was actually the Romans who introduced the Persian into Europe at the earlier date of 1500s.

We can be certain about the time that these special cats were first introduced to the United States and Canada. This occurred in the early 1900s, and from that time on, the cats gained in popularity, quickly becoming the most popular breed of cat in the world, which is a distinction that the breed still holds today. In fact, Persians started out as symbols, and became pets, after which they were prized for their show quality. Today, they are prized for their show and pet qualities, as many Persian owners never show their cats, while others are active exhibitors.

One of the most popular joint medications is a supplement called Dasuquin MSM, which many consumers have purchased for their pets. They have bought it to help support joint function in their dogs & cats.

It’s time to put Nutramax Pet MSM in the spotlight. We are going to study the details of this so that when you are shopping again you will know what you are buying.

Dasuquin is not the name of a drug; it is simply a brand name for a joint support supplement. Nutramax Pet MSM is another example of a joint support supplement brand. They are very similar products and carry out similar functions.

The two products mentioned before have a lot in common - both contain Glucosamine and Chondroitin. In fact that is the total sum of the active ingredients in Cosequin. What is missing from it is MSM or Methylsulfonylmethane.

The addition of MSM is an interesting aspect to talk about with regard to Nutramax Pet MSM and other supplements as it is known to be vital in controlling inflammation and pain. If your animal suffers from arthritis, MSM would be a vital ingredient to have in any joint support supplement you chose.

So that leaves Cosequin rather less attractive if you are looking for a supplement for dogs with arthritis. It may be a perfectly valid choice for those who want a mainstream joint supplement with Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

If you dog has only certain requirements, Consequin is pretty good, with several strengths and both chewables and capsules to choose from. However, Dasuquin should be your choice though if you require MSM.

It might be that your vet has told you to give your dog Nutramax Pet MSM on his last examination; but this might not be a literal suggestion, he might be recommending ANY premium joint product. Dasuquin may be one of many options.

There are many brands that may be suitable, so it might be best to query your vet a little on exactly what supplementary need is being addressed. Maybe Consequin is the best choice, but Nutramax MSM could be a better one.

The holy trinity of MSM, Glucosamine and Chondroitin can be found in a variety of products. Nutramax Dasuquin products are created from the best ingredients and you can be sure what you get in the bottle is what is described.

Buy Dasuquin MSM because what you read on the label might not be what you get with other brands so buyer beware.

Many pet owners rely on Denosyl tabs to support liver functioning in their dogs.

by Rhonda Foxton

Many pet owners rely on Denosyl tabs to support liver functioning in their dogs.

Think of your cat’s body as a machine, with his organs as the major parts which work together to provide life.

The major organs are vital, but it is the sum of all those parts that is the key to health.

Cells are essentially what we are made up of, so we shouldn’t ignore the small guys.

We all know from neglecting our things though that it is possible to go on with a few wear and tear problems, but it may only be a matter of time before something major occurs.

Try that analogy with humans and animals, through our own choices or sometimes circumstances we can let our health slide, but we do run the risk of contracting something serious by doing so.

And once disease takes hold, it can be harder to eradicate than a bit of common sense and prevention.

The major organs are particularly at risk as they hold the key to life for every creature.

If you think a transplant will sort the issue, remember they are expensive, donors can be hard to find and there are associated risks. Why not prevent rather than cure?

Denosyl tabs for pets have been developed especially with a dog’s needs in mind. The effects are that glutathione levels rise in the liver.

What on earth is glutathione I hear you say. Well it’s a powerful antioxidant which helps to repair, regenerate and protect liver cells.

Defense starts really from the individual cells, an organ made of entirely healthy cells will be resilient against attack by infection or disease.

Your body destroys thousands of irregular or infected cells every day, but your body has to be healthy in order to fight back.

Hipidosis, Chronic Hepatitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Drug-induced Hepatitis caused by Prednisone or Rimadyl, and Pancreatitis are all diseases which affect the dog’s liver, so you can see how Nutramax Denosyl SAMe might be worth considering as a safeguard.

Denosyl SAMe tabs for cats are well within your budget, and will greatly benefit your dog’s health, both now and in the future.

A small investment now can save a lot of heartache later on.

If humans choose to abuse their body, it’s their choice, but our canine friends will generally eat what we put in front of them and their lives and therefore health are controlled by us their owners.

Denosyl SAMe tabs for pets is one obvious and easy way to do just that.

Barking is as natural to a dog as talking is as natural to a human being. Trying to stop dog barking altogether would be like trying to stop someone to talk forever! It’s impossible and it’s not exactly a nice thing to do. The thing is, excessive barking (much like excessive talking) is a major nuisance-not just to you but to your family, your neighbors, the children at play, the mailman, and every one else in earshot.

Though barking is not to be stopped-after all, it’s handy when your dog uses it for proper reasons like warning you, warding off trespassers, or telling you something of significance-it must be controlled. If you want to keep peace in the neighborhood and between your neighbors, controlling your dog’s barking habits is important.

A lot of people-even dog owners-aren’t too conscious that there are many ways to try and stop your dog from barking at whim.

These days, busy dog owners tend to run to these things called anti-barking collars. They’re convenient as they don’t seem to require much time from the owner. The great thing about collars is that they can manage a dog’s barking habits even when the owner is not around. As of late, there are normally three different types of anti-barking collars available in the market.

One is the sonar collar. This sonar collar is a discreet little thing. Whenever the dog barks, it releases a sound with a certain frequency inaudible to humans but irritable to dogs. This in turn will get them to think that the irritable sound is a punishment to their barking and will (hopefully) get them to stop.

The second one is the citronella collar. The citronella collar sprays a scent that dogs don’t really like. Whenever they bark, the collar would spray this scent so that, similar to the sonar collar, the dog would find the scent as a castigation for their incessant barking. Though this seems pretty useful, a lot of people say that their dogs have already found a way to get around this anti-barking device.

One anecdotal report states that their dog would just keep on barking until the collar runs out of citronella. Afterwards, he will go on barking the whole day without having to deal with the citronella smell. Other dogs find other ways, like making a face (that probably gets them to hold their breath somehow) when the collar sprays and then barking again.

In general, citronella collars should be used as a last resort (i.e. driving you and your neighbors to madness) because the scent is extremely offensive to dogs (although not physically harmful). It also doesn’t address the actual cause of barking. If there is a physical or psychological cause behind his barking, then it’s counterproductive to restrain his ability to tell you that something is wrong.

The third one is the shock collar. Now, this collar is the most notorious of the three. Whenever the dog barks, it shocks the dog with electricity. The strength level of the electric current can even be changed from 1 to 6; 6 being the highest and the one that stings the most.

Many people regard this collar as brutal and condone it. Come to think of it, no decent person would want to do that to their own child (or anyone they want to discipline for that matter) so doing it to their own pet sounds insane, illogical and altogether cruel as well. As much as possible, this kind of sonar is avoided-and for good reason.

Although they may all seem very practical, easy, and promising, collars are at most, simply a supplementary solution to incessant dog barking.

The best thing to do is to find out first why exactly your dog has that kind of habit. If humans have psychologists, dogs have veterinarian behaviorists-their role is to generally observe a dog’s environment and circumstances to figure out what exactly triggers their socially unacceptable behavior and then find solutions to eliminate the behavior with proper training methods based on their findings.

Some reasons as to why a dog would bark are things like lack of things to do (meaning they have so much energy with nothing to use it with) or frustration (perhaps they’re being bullied by another dog in the family or by the people around them) to name two.

If you can’t pinpoint what exactly triggers their unwanted behavior, call a vet behaviorist near you to help you find out what’s bothering your dog. A vet behaviorist will also teach you what to do.

In extreme cases, they might suggest an anti-barking collar but that should be used side by side with proper training method. Like, say, if you find out that your dog is just plain bored and has no other way to release pent-up energy, then work on giving your dog something to do.

Provide them with physical activity like walks, catch, and play time with other dogs. If you’re always out, put them in the care of someone else while you’re out-like a relative or a friend or a dog walker or a doggie daycare. Especially when you’re alone in the house, when you’re out, like humans, your dog feels lonely and bored and he will do anything to use all his energy.

You can also use other tricks like the “QUIET” command, which you will have to implement whenever he barks senselessly. If you’ve already established yourself as the alpha of your “pack”, then it won’t take much trouble to teach this.

If the barking becomes too much of a nuisance and is already inspiring hostility among your neighbors, then using an anti-bark collar might be acceptable, but only temporarily or only as a training supplement.

It is highly suggested that you stick to the sonar collar as it is possibly the most humane choice of the three and also the most fool-proof one as much as anti-bark collars can get. Never forget to tackle the problem with hands-on solutions and obedience training as well. Training your dog to answer to obedience signals is still the best and lasting way to tone down incessant barking but still maintain his freedom to do what he naturally does.

Heartworm is a particularly nasty parasite which is spread from host to host by mosquitoes, and the most popular flea and heartworm prevention solution is Revolution flea.

Heartworms in canines are a kind of filaris (a long thin worm), and despite being best known for being found in dogs, heartworms can affect a wide variety of other animals, from cats and ferrets to sea lions and even people.

The worm was named after its habit in the last stage of its reproductive cycle of taking up residence in heart of its host.

Without treatment, the afflicted animal will have increasing difficulty exerting itself, perhaps losing its breath or even passing out when under duress.

The parasites can also damage the lungs, kidneys, and liver, causing the death of the animal when these organs or the heart itself fails.

Treatment is possible, but it is lengthy (18 months or more).

This is usually comprised of several courses of highly potent anti-heartworm medications, including the use of a dangerous arsenic compound, to kill the parasites. In some cases, surgery may be necessary; each of these options may cause the animal great suffering.

The animal may be totally asymptomatic for the greatest part of the infection.

The life cycle of the dog heartworm is approximately 6 to 7 months from the first bite of the mosquito to the parasite moving to the heart.

Fully matured female heartworms may reach a length of 30 centimeters, and males 23 centimeters.

After 7 months, mating will have occurred and the females will have started producing microfilariae.

Although heart worms used to only affect warm southern climates, they now affect anywhere which is habitable for mosquitoes.

Heartworm prevention comes in the shape of a monthly prophylactic, such as Revolution for cats which uses selamectin - a broad range anti parasite medication.

Revolution flea control is inexpensive, easy to dispense and very effective.

Milbemycin is the active ingredient in Inteceptor, and ProHeart utilizes moxidectin to kill the parasites.

Heartworm and other parasites can be treated by using a topical application such as Revolution flea control, which is not only a heartworm control, but also a program of flea control and parasite control.

Heartworm prevention is so easy and effective, there is simply no reason to risk your pet’s health. To get your dog checked out, see your vet.

Medications can prevent and cure the infection, but a blood test is the most common form of diagnosis first.

The amount of the damage in an infected animal can be revealed by an x-ray.

Heartworm pills or injections are a common route to take in curing an infection, however prevention is always much better than trying to cure heartworms. (This holds true with fleas, ticks, and other health conditions, as well.)

To get the information you need, ask about the canine heartworm at your dog’s next routine check up.

Revolution for dogs will be cheaper and much better for your pet not to risk their health by short term economy.

Our society is thoroughly convinced of Veterinarians’ qualifications with respect to knowledge of our cats’ nutrition. As a cat owner, we never even consider the alternative. But the question is; could we be wrong?

Other pet owners place their pets’ nutritional needs in the hands of uncaring commercial pet food companies. Why? Because pet food companies produce “Bank account swelling ads” that tell consumers, like you and others, that their food is wholesome, nutritional, 100% natural and complete. The ads suggest that your pet could look and feel equally as good as the pet/pets that appear in their commercials.

Unsuspecting pet owners believe what they hear and buy the advertised pet food. Some commercial pet food companies even place a premium price on their products to convince pet owners their product is superior in quality.

That’s what they say but can it be true?

Little nutritional training to Vets is administered in Vet schools and that training is often given by persons that are loyal to the pet food companies. The commercial pet food companies donate money, equipment, banners and free food to Veterinarian schools. What a great long-term business plan - it’s buying loyalty and it puts money in the pockets of commercial pet food companies and the Veterinarians.

Barring any independent research by the Veterinarian, this bought loyalty will continue throughout the Veterinarian’s career

Our domestic cats’ diet should closely resemble the diets of the wild cats that roam the African and asian continents. Commercial pet food companies make these unproveable claims that their foods are nutritional, wholesome, 100% natural and complete. The truth is that their foods violate the fact that cats are carnivores and should never eat stuff they call food.

Because of a cat’s physiology, they cannot digest many of the ingredients included in commercial cat foods. Prolong consumption of carbohydrates and other cheap ingredients will harm and are often fatal to cats. Cats are obligate carnivores and should be fed accordingly.

Then there are the preservatives both artificial and natural. Ethoxyquin, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are artificial preservatives and all have been linked to cancer and other health-related problems. Although the Food and Drug Administration has received numerous complaints from consumers that fed their pets food containing these preservatives, the FDA has refused to act.

Evidence strongly suggests that many Veterinarians have been bought and paid for by the pet food industry. Moreover, it’s unreasonable for us to think they can provide unbias, independent advice regarding our cats’ nutritional needs. Vets lack the training to offer nutritional advice on our pets and making money takes presidence over independent research - educating themselves on the proper nutrition required for our pets should be their main concern but it’s not.

Many Vets ignore the oath they sworn to uphold “First do no harm.” They blatantly sell foods to you that cause harm to your pets

To maintain your cat’s health, you have to take control of their diets. You should learn what’s beneficial for your cat and the foods to avoid.

Many pet care-givers are convinced that Veterinarians are highly trained to dispense nutritional advice. Their beliefs are so strong that they never second guess it. Cats owners opinion of Vets is so engrained that they never even think that this belief could be wrong.

When we see commercial pet food ads on TV or read their ads in print, we have no reason to doubt their claims. So we, the trusting public, is so convinced by their ads we put the nutritional needs of our pets in their hands.

For the most part, we are trusting people and therefore we have no reason to doubt their claims. When the commercial pet food companies put a high price on their food, we are totally convinced that their product is good

Could the commercial pet food companies be hiding the truth from us?

Up and coming Veterinarians, while in Vet schools, are bombarded with commercial pet food companys’ propergander. The little nutritional training they do receive is done so by people with a vested interest in the pet food companies. They are buying Veterinarians’ loyalty and this loyalty usually last throughout the Vet’s career.

If the Veterinarians never question what they’ve been taught and chooses not to do any independent research, they will continue their loyalty to the pet food industry until they retire.

What about the food the pet food companies claim to be wholesome, nutritional, 100% natural and complete? That statement is false. Our domestic cats are descendents of the wild cats that roam the African and Asian Continents. Domestic cats’ diets should mimic their predecessors. However, today’s commercial pet foods are chocked with harmful, processed and often toxic ingredients.

In the final analysis, I’ve shared with you information that many Veterinarians are ill-equipped to provide nutritional advise for your cat or dog. Moreover, many Vets are bought and paid for by the pet food industry and their main objective is to make money.

Many Vets ignore the oath they sworn to uphold “First do no harm.” They blatantly sell foods to you that cause harm to your pets

Love your cat(s) enough to take the time to learn what foods are good for them. Don’t leave this chore to strangers - you need to be the one that learns what’s good for you pet and feed them those foods.

Arthritis in canines is usually a disease that’s age related and is known to be one of the most common diseases in dogs. No matter what the age of your pet it can be affected, especially if they are over weight. Arthritis is most common in dog breeds that grow to more than 60 pounds, like Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Rottweilers and German Shepherds.

The pain your pet experiences from arthritis is due to the breakdown of cartilage around its joints that cause extreme discomfort during movement.

Using a preventive approach by giving your dog the appropriate natural supplements will help your dog be more prepared to fend off age related mobility issues. It’s better to start your pet on these supplements when they are about 4 to five years of age. This preventive regimen should include Glucosamine and Chondroitin given on a daily basis. You should consult with your Vet on the dosages appropriate for your pet.

If your dog starts showing symptoms of arthritis you need to take steps to help relieve their pain quickly. Dogs are good at masking some of the symptoms of pain so when you see it’s painful for them, believe me it’s really bothering them.

To identify the first symptoms of arthritis in your dog you need to be aware of what to look for. Your pet can start to have trouble in getting up, doesn’t want to play, won’t run anymore, sleeps more or seems to move slower. Any of these signs could indicate that your pet is uncomfortable and could be having some pain. If you observe any of these symptoms make sure you get in your Vet to get an evaluation|examination.

Once your pet has been examined by your Vet you’ll know if you need to start some type of medication to relieve the stiffness and pain. Most often your Vet will recommend an NSAID, an anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drug. These drugs can usually treat arthritis effectively, but the downside is possible side effects and a high cost. There can be adverse reactions and each pet has different levels of tolerance to each individual drug.

If you are concerned about prescription medications and their long term usage and potential side effects you should consider using available natural treatments that can be a less expensive and just as effective. It may take a little trial and error in finding the most appropriate one for your dog.

My Labrador Brandy was showing arthritic signs at eleven years. She was prescribed Metacam for over a year and did quite well, however the cost was difficult to deal with since the medication dosage is based on the dog’s weight (mine weighed 75 pounds). I searched around and discovered an exceptional natural supplement that eliminated her pain at less than half the cost of Metacam.

You owe it to your pet to relieve|eliminate] their pain, but you owe it to yourself to find an affordable treatment. You can achieve both as I discovered. After transitioning from Metacam to a natural supplement treatment, Brandy spent the remainder of her life pain free. You too can find that balance by not settling for a very expensive prescription medication.

The temperament of the Boston terrier can be described as enthusiastic as it often loves to play. Most people comment that the Boston terrier actually has a great sense of humor. Another characteristic that people find delightful with this breed is the fact that they are intelligent and are very much easily trained. This fact is also enhanced by the dog’s natural curiosity and love for learning.

Bostons make excellent watchdogs as they do not bark indiscriminately. This means that you won’t wake up in the middle of the night because your Boston terrier saw a butterfly. There are some cases, though, when a Boston terrier will not bark at all.

One disorder you should watch out for is a skull defect. If a Boston terrier is badly bred, it often develops a bone defect that prevents the brain from growing. This, naturally, will lead to a retarded dog.

On the Kerry Blue Terrier dog

The Blue Kerry terrier pet dog is one of the most mysterious breeds of terriers. This is because of the fact that even though the breed has been known by the Irish for at leas 150 years, nobody really knows where they came from or how they were first bred.

There are some terrier characteristics which may cause a bit of trouble for your dog. Like all terriers, the Blue Kerry terrier pet dog can get into fights with other dogs. In order to prevent this, you need to make sure that the Blue Kerry terrier pet dog is properly socialized. Usually this is done by the breeder.

A Blue Kerry terrier is not really for everyone. Some people may find it a bit too playful. Some people may not really get used to the Blue Kerry terrier’s curiosity. People may not really understand its habit of following everyone around. Today, the fate of the Blue Kerry terrier dog lies in the hands of the breeders who care for them, nurture them, and make sure that they have great homes to stay in.
