In the middle of an American economic crisis, one industry seems to be booming: the collection industry! That’s right, according to one recent study that was conducted as of late, more than fifty five percent of the collection agencies questioned plan to add to the amount of staff that they already employ this fiscal year.

Any manager going through the hiring process is aware of the time and aggravation that comes with finding the right fit for the job, especially a job like a debt collector where attention to detail and motivation are highly necessary. In the collections industry, it is imperative that you hire the right person. A debt collector who is too laid back is not going to collect; a collector who is too high strung might end up getting your company sued. Hiring the wrong person not only leads to an unhappy new hire with the ability to harm the credibility of the hiring manager and even the company, but it also wastes management time that it takes to train. Time and money that could have been put into training the right employee in the first place.

So how should a hiring manager go about conducting interviews to find the best fit? Interviewing styles will vary from business to business. Generally, a number of interviews will involve asking about a candidate’s job history. But if a candidate has an idea of what you are looking for, and they are good at selling you their experience, you may wind up hiring the person who is not best suited for the specific job you have in mind. Thus, the most crucial idea that any potential employer should keep in mind during an interview is to get the candidate to be extremely specific. Studies have shown that it is more effective to go over less material very thoroughly than to have a general sense of everywhere that the candidate has been. It is important not to simply accept their first answer as complete- probe for more details.

In the collection industry, behavioral questions have been proven to be helpful. These are based on the idea that past actions may predict behavior in the future. When it is crucial that you need to be able to reasonably predict how a new hire will respond to any type of stimulus on the job because the credibility of your company is at stake, questions such as “give me an example of,” or “what are your best and worst personality traits” can be helpful. Ask the candidate how they generally handle stress. We all know they are going to be dealing with it after all.

Finally, look for new hires who feel passion about the things that they do. Try to look under the surface to determine if there is an authentic depth underneath what the candidate is claiming. Try asking about hobbies, life goals, etc. It may be unorthodox, but looking beyond qualifications can help you get a hold of some of the details that will give you an idea of how a candidate will approach a job and what their work habits are like.

In parts one and two in this set of articles on the very basics of debt collection, I wrote about the differences between an in house collector and a third party debt collector. I wrote about the different types of ways that debt collectors will locate the debtors, and described a number of statements that the debt collector must say before they can proceed in their attempt to collect debt from you.

Debt collectors refer to these legal guidelines as a “mini Miranda.” If a debt collector does not give this information to you, he or she is violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If questioned, the debt collector is obligated to tell you her name, the name, address and fax number of her agency, and what creditor she is calling on behalf of.

If it is necessary to do so the debt collector will go over the terms of sale with you, or credit contracts. Bear in mind that your conversation will probably be recorded, and a good debt collector is a sneaky one. They will most likely use their listening skills to try to determine the cause of the delinquency.

Despite what you may have heard from anecdotal stories, or the sensational stories you have heard on the news, most debt collectors are empathetic people, working to make a buck like you. Even if your debt collector is calling aggressively, it is never a good idea to ignore their calls. A debt collector will have the authority to offer a repayment plan, or some other type of help to make it easier for you to pay off of your debt.

At times, they are capable of finding solutions to your financial problems. After all, they work with people like you every day. They can even offer you some helpful advice or they may be able to tell you about some helpful debt counselors. Unluckily, it has been mentioned that all stereotypes have some truth in them, and there will be an occasional debt collector who may use strong arm or even illegal tactics to collect money that is owed. If a collections agent calls you, and something doesn’t sit right with you, consult the FDCPA, and call your local attorney general’s office to report the incident.

On February 22nd, 2010, the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act took effect. The CARD Act had one major purpose: to attempt to put a curb on credit card practices and set limits to the fees that credit card companies charge consumers. It was created with consumers in mind, setting limits to the amount of credit that will be available to them in this recession “for their own good.”

Due to the life changing CARD Act, a number of financial institutions have modified their business models by reducing potential risk to cardholders. They have dropped or restricted some borrowers with a poor financial history, tightened up credit lines, and are marketing less. Analysts predict credit limit reductions to have two main impacts for the collection industry.

One result of the CARD Act has been the setting of restrictions on the average size of accounts that are placed for collection. This, coupled with debtor’s behavior these past couple of years, where people generally spent savings and maxed out personal loans and home equity, raises eyebrows and concern, because for many consumers, credit cards are the only short term credit that is available to them at this moment.

Another giant impact of the CARD Act is a result of the provision that consumers are not able to pay off one credit card debt using a different card. While this may help debtors to be more fiscally responsible, this obviously has massive ramifications for the collection industry. Experts and leaders in the field hypothesize that the best way to deal with the enormous changes that have ensued is to remain flexible and to be creative. In addition to the same old telephone calls and collections letters, the internet can be seen as a good option for payment.

Analysts remind us of a few additional ideas that we, as collection professionals should bear in mind about the CARD Act. Extra payments must go to pay off the accounts with highest interest balances first. The CARD Act also grants consumers the ability to set their own credit limits that may be less than those set by the creditors, and marketing credit to college students and giving credit card access to people under twenty one will now be severely restricted.

Getting rid of your loans is perhaps one the hardest tasks that you will ever engage in. It needs commitment and willpower. Here are a few tips you can use if you want to get rid of loans fast:

The most important thing that you must do if you want to get rid of loans is to set up clear goals that will guide you through the repayment process. Get to know how much money you will be paying during every installment. Get to know how you can measure your goals. On the other hand, if you fail to plan for your loans it will be difficult to know how you are doing in relation to getting rid of your loans.

Always spend from what you have. Do not spend on money that you do not have or own. This will help you have a surplus on your budget instead of the perennial shortage that you may be facing. You can then use the surplus to pay up for all the debts that you owe and help get rid of loans.

Always use cash or debit cards instead of credit card. Now, many people love using their credit cards even when they have money that they can use. The problem with this is that using credit cards can easily tempt you to spend money that you don’t have hence making it harder for you to get rid of your loans. On the other hand, using cash will limit you to money that you have.

Form a consistent saving habit. The reason why people get into so many debts and find it hard to get rid of their loans is because they have a poor saving habit. If you save money for the future, you won’t have to rush around to borrow money in case of an emergency.

Always prepare a budget. If you want to get rid of loans, there is no way you can ignore the contributions of formal budget to this goal. This is because the budget will make it very easy to make practical plans towards achieving your goals.

Get loans to invest, not to consume. One way of knowing whether an investment is a good one, is to see whether it can pay off its loans. The same thing should apply when borrowing. Only borrow when you know that the loans will bring in an income that can repay the loan with interest. On the other hand, borrowing money for consumption purposes can only make it difficult for you to get rid of loans.

Know your limits. Never borrow an amount that you cannot pay easily. Some people get into loans that will simply be too strenuous for them. Trying to get rid of such loans is usually such a difficult task that it strains you for a very long time.

If you want to get rid of loans forever, it is important that you make an effort to stop the bad habit of borrowing money from someone to pay off someone else. You have to sacrifice in order to achieve the goal. It may take time, but it is worth it - you will soon get rid of all your loans.

A roof will have to be replaced for various reasons such as leakage or rotted ceiling joists, and other things. You should first check out how bad the damage may be. A good place to start is to step back and look at your roof from the outside. Check for any sagging or depressions and missing shingles. If you do not spot anything unusual, then it is time to examine it from the inside. If you smell mold or find cracks to the outside, then you should make an appointment with a roofing company.

Before you call anyone, do your due diligence. Ask anyone in your neighborhood who has just gotten a new roof for a referral. Find out if they were happy with the service and how much they paid. Check out the internet and search for roofers in your area and get some estimates.

First thing to expect is that not all contractors are alike, and you will want to get many estimates. Write down as much information as you can when interviewing each one, and make sure you ask questions about roofing materials, how long the job will expect to take and any hidden fees.

What kind of roof you have, sloped, and flat, what region of the country you live in and what kinds of materials are used greatly effect costs. If you live in and area with weather extremes, severe cold, tornadoes, etc. effect costs.

Look for roofers that will assure you of a roof that is well built and that will last a long time, as you will not be required to repair or replace it as often. The price may be higher to do this, but you will save a lot of money in the end.

Asphalt shingles are perhaps the most common and relatively inexpensive materials, and are usually guaranteed to last 20-30 years, Wood shingles can last up to 25 years, but require a lot of routine maintenance.

It will take some time if you want to do things right. Even if you have a leak and you need someone to come and patch it up, find a person that is qualified and will do it right on the first attempt. When looking for a roofer, make sure that they have a license and are bonded and insured as well.

If you want to do things right it is going to take some time. Even if you need someone to come in and fix a leak, you should get a person who is going to do it right the first time. When looking for a contractor some things to note. Make sure that they have a contractors license, are bonded and insured. Check with the business directory and other places to make sure they haven’t had any complaints. A really good indication of a good roofer is how long they have been in business. The longer they have been in business the more experienced they will be. Check all referrals, and if the roofer is unwilling to give these out, move on to the next one.

Would you like to have your art well known and be able to sell to a lot of people? Do you want to quit your day job and work only on your art?

by Leigh-Ann Lemire

Would you like to have your art well known and be able to sell to a lot of people? Do you want to quit your day job and work only on your art?

In order to accomplish the above feats, you have to get your name out there consistently. You need to be very noticeable and attract lots of attention. This isn’t as hard as it may seem, read on for a very simple but effective method to accomplish the above while also helping your fellow creative friends and making your community prosperous.

The downtown Los Angeles Arts District gives an example of how artists can make an area prosper. The area used to be ruins, a degraded place with boarded up buildings empty buildings. Ten years ago artists started coming into the area and now it is famous, no longer degraded but affluent and flourishing and safe. There are many examples of this phenomena in other towns and cities, but basically when artists come into an area and create, the neighborhood stops going downhill and starts up. Buildings are bought and repaired and businesses open.

Right now there are a lot of empty buildings, offices, car lots, shops in strip malls, many due to the recession. It would make a great impact if artists used these empty spaces for creating. What better use could you imagine?

Here is a workable project that is almost free to start. It can help your neighborhood, and bring success to you and your artist friends.

This is what to do:

1. Get other artists to help - contact painters, actors, poets, musicians, etc.

Place free ads at Craigslist.org, kijiji.com, local newspaper sites and do a google search for “free classified sites” to find more place to advertise. Be sure to put your zip code to keep it local to your area.

Make postcards or flyers to hand out to the neighborhood.

Put the flyers in the local businesses.

Ask people you know for any other artists they may know. You can knock on doors - go to your neighbors, even the ones you do not know well.

2. Once you have people to work with, create a presentation pack. You do not need to be elaborate with this presentation.

Go to Office Max for a presentation binder (it will cost from $2-$5), clear plastic sheet covers (100 for about $11) and some white glossy paper (about $10).

Fill your presentation pack with a page for each artist or musician or actor, etc., in your group. Each sheet should contain a photo of the person, a photo of his or her artwork (or performance), short biography, artist’s statement and information on how to contact the artist.

3. Find empty buildings in your area. You and the artists that you found are going to create there and you will have a salesperson to sell your artworks.

You are going to pay the salesperson a percentage of sales, with bonuses for selling over a certain amount per week or per month. To find the sales person, you can ask friends, family, neighbors - someone in need of work will pop up. You assign the salesperson to get a business license from the city and a tax license from the state. Sometimes these licenses are free; sometimes they require a fee, depending on where you are.

For the space you choose, find out who is the owner or the real estate agent for the property.

4. The next step is to call the owner or Realtor and set up a date and time to do a presentation. You could mention that you and a group of artists have an interest in getting the building leased.

5. Present your ideas to the agent or owner keeping the emphasis on the benefits for the owner, including these points:

Tell the owner/agent about the sure-fire way to get the building leased by letting artists into the area to create. It has worked many times - every time you get artists in there creating, the area becomes busy, buildings are leased, the community improves and the area is cleaned up.

You can bring up the Los Angeles Arts District as an example of a place where artists succeeded and raised the general standards of the area.

Then show the presentation pack to the realtor/owner of the artists that will be creating there.

6. If you find out that the realtor/owner wants you to have insurance in order to use the space, team up with a local Alternative School or local charity as either will have the insurance that is needed.

7. Create and Set Out Signs.

“Artists at Work” or “Artists Ahead” on large signs with arrows will attract attention. Put some balloons on them to make them stand out more. You can make these signs in bright colors on plywood, poster board or on A-frames and put them on either side of the street about beginning at about 50 yards from the building and getting closer. Attach the signs to posts with bungee cords.

8. Create art.

In the space that you procure, bring completed artworks for the salesperson to sell, then set up a space to create. The artists only need to be concerned with creating, the salesperson with selling. One art form helps to inspire another one, so there will be no lack of inspiration and a beautiful energy will be created that will get attention and sales.

9. Continue in spite of all.

Maybe you won’t sell anything in the first hour or on the first day. But if you keep creating and keep pulling in attention, sales will follow. Persist!

10. Do whatever you can think of to bring attention to your area and to your group of artists.

Colorful flyers distributed to local businesses will help.

Invite newspaper representatives, someone from local radio stations, galleries, gift stores, etc., to come visit.

Write a press release and distribute it. http://help-2-succeed,com/blog/index/php/press-release-tips-aamp-generator tells you how to write a press release. http://help-2-succeed.com/blog/index/php/press-release-distribution-services tells you how to get the press release distributed.

You can also use social media sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter to get the word out. Just put posts about how you and a group of talented folks are creating, where and when. Other posts can be about the latest pieces that you are working on, the inspiration and so on.

If creative people stop by, invite the artists to join you.

The more that you attract attention, the better your project will become. The longer that you persist with creating in the space that you procured, the better your sales and the more you will see your community start to flourish.

After a bit you may discover that your building has been leased or sold. Not a stop for your project. Since you will be helping the new tenant get business - something always necessary - have the agent or owner put in his recommendation that you stay in the space.

To help other artists and communities flourish, pass this around. It is a free project, beneficial to all.

When it comes to transferring money from the USA to India, most people are looking for a means that is safe, speedy and inexpensive. There are advantages and disadvantages to many of the viable choices for sending money to India, but it is helpful to know some of the dissimilarities between the many options that are available.

One way to send money from the United States to India is to do it the old fashioned way and send a check. The downside is that this is a quite slow method. Intercontinental mail can take anywhere from 1 to four weeks to arrive at its destination, and once the recipient of the money finally receives the check, his or her local bank is likely to freeze the funds for up to three weeks while the check clears. To save time, some people who want to make frequent transfers to someone in India can draft many post-dated checks”a risky idea. Another risk with this method is that the transfer charge is set on the day the check clears, so the amount of U.S. dollars transferred may not translate into the correct number of Rupees that you originally needed to send. This method can take a long time, but it is the cheapest way to transfer funds to India.

If youd like to mail a check in Rupees, Indias largest bank, the State Bank of India, now has many branches in the United States. Customers can open accounts, transfer money into those accounts, and then draft checks denominated in Rupees to send to India. This cuts down on some delay with the holding of checks and mitigates transfer risk. The State Bank of India charges $10 for all checks under Rs 50,000. If the receiver of the money has an account in India with the State Bank of India, you can also directly wire cash from a US office. Other banks, such as Citibank, allow consumers to open Rupee checking accounts.

Outside of sending checks or using India-Friendly banks, other companies have International money transfer capabilities. This is an attractive option for some because its speedy, but its also quite expensive and recipients must be close to areas of operation in India, which can be rare.

Many websites are now in operation that can be used to transfer money directly to India. These types of sites allow customers to send funds to India using a credit card via the internet. Typically, a check is issued and received by the receiver within five business days. The costs associated with these transfers can be large, but are generally lower than sending funds through an Worldwide bank transfer company.

It is a great idea to use a credible company if you choose to send monies electronically and to understand costs and transfer rates that will be used, as well as how long it will take for those monies to be received. It is also a stellar idea to find a company with superior customer support, in case the process becomes difficult along the way.

Ever dreamed of getting that perfect home that is overlooking the most gorgeous beach? You probably have, and you pictured yourself right in the middle of the islands of Hawaii. People immediately relate pricey rates to the idea of living in Hawaii. However, this did not stop a lot of Americans from deciding to relocate to its hospitable lands.

Several islands make up the entire state of Hawaii. Unlike the usual nightlife in the most crowded cities, life in Hawaii is more peaceful and free from the usual urban ambiance. Each island possesses remarkable attributes that can be distinguished from the other.

Should you decide to remain far from the mainland, you might be in for a little surprise in terms of the home prices. If you only have a thousand dollars allocated for your monthly rental, this may not even be enough to get you your own studio in some island. An average studio apartment can cost $1300 at the most.

Shipping your car or furniture to the islands can be expensive so just remember that you will probably have less space, which means you will only want to bring the most important items.

For those who want to live at a cheaper price, they’d prefer getting someone to share the apartment with. That way, the rental charges can be divided into two and will be much bearable in terms of finances. A person also needs to take into account daily expenses caused by food and other basic necessities. The money paid for the studios rental, for instance, discounts the expenses for your trip to the grocers.

Most food options in Hawaii are also imported. In most cases, food can be cheap since these are always sold at very reasonable rates. Dinner is always the most expensive meal of the day as it can cost you just a little below $30.

People in Hawaii are also well known for their warm and welcoming personality. With this kind of culture, many foreigners are drawn towards their people. This also makes a lot of people confident in their choices of relocating to the state’s islands.

There are also other activities and festive occasions that are celebrated in Hawaii. If you wake up one day feeling tired of the usual beach regime, you may opt to try some of their water sports to keep you busy and entertained.

Hawaii promises some of the most breathtaking views of nature. Living in Hawaii will definitely be a remarkable experience for any individual. As you stay longer, you will also get to enjoy their culture and environment.

Most people dream about moving to an island their whole life and living in paradise. If people look closely at their dream of moving to Hawaii, it can become a reality with little time and hard work.

Research Shipping Companies

Looking up possible companies to ship your stuff to the island is one of the first things that you should start doing. This way you can conduct thorough research and know what you should expect to pay and how long it will take for everything to arrive.

It is worthwhile to take an inventory of everything you own and decide if it should all come with you or sell it and give it away. It is important to know that many homes are smaller on the islands and typically more expensive than most states so reducing your amount of stuff will be necessary.

Hawaii Job Hunt

Finding your new Hawaiian job is something that will be important to anyone moving out that way. The good news is that the same careers being pursued on the mainland are happening in Hawaii, so you should be able to eventually find something in the type of work you are used to. Keep in mind that having a little flexibility can help you land a job faster.

If you have any experience in resort services, restaurant work, or bartending then you will find that the transition to Hawaii can be very easy as it is such a large tourism area there are bound to be jobs in those fields. If you are looking for other work that is more specific or less easy to find in those positions might be a good way to get started they are while searching for something closer to your dream job.

Make the Move

There are no excuses now that you know how to find work and get your stuff there so get started and make the dream a reality. Put your knowledge to action and discover what living in Hawaii is all about.

If you have ever visited Hawaii were even seen a postcard of the area then you can imagine how wonderful it would be to move to Hawaii and live there full-time. All it takes is a little bit of planning and work to make the transition to living in paradise.

What You Should Keep in your Golfing Bag.

by Rhys Jones

What You Should Keep in your Golfing Bag.

There is quite a selection of golf bags on the market: some are very pretty, designer bags, made for looking good; others are practical golf bags designed by golfers for golfers and some are half-way between the two types. Then there is ‘big’, ‘bigger’ and ‘ginormous’ - big enough to use as a suitcase.

Generally speaking, you need a bag which is just large enough to hold your clubs, extra balls, your glove, tees, car keys, extra pencils, ball markers, a ball retriever, sunscreen, a windbreaker and a large umbrella.

It is also recommended that you carry in your bag: some tissue paper, sticking plasters and, whether necessary or not, some insect repellant.

A small pack of baby wipes comes in very handy; in your bag they get warmed by the heat, so when you get sweaty or a sand trap covers you with sand, a nice warm wipe can be very refreshing.

If you suffer from any allergies or illnesses, it is a wise precaution to carry antidotes with you. For example, if you are sensitive to bee stings then anti-hystamine or whatever you take if you are a diabetic. However, remember to replace drugs before their expiry date.

Please remember to turn off your mobile phone before you put it away as a courtesy to the other players. No one is going to be best pleased to hear your phone go off just as he is about to take a shot. It is part of golfing etiquette too. If you must use it, walk away from the teams.

Having these items in your golf bag should provide everything you will need, even in a minor emergency (like a blister) or a major inconvenience, like a sudden rainstorm. Being prepared makes the game a great deal more fun.
