Your are probably concerned about the safety of your family more than anything else. Your concern for their safety is just as important in the house as it is out of it. You will do whatever you can to make sure they are safe at all times. Naturally you want to make sure that your homes fire alarm systems are in good operating condition.

A lot of homes have the small white wall mounted fire alarms hanging on the wall or from the ceiling. These small inexpensive alarm systems are not an effective way to monitor your home from the threat of fire. Many times we forget to change the battery and the unit hangs on the wall but won’t work.

It is true that some of these systems are wired into the houses electrical system. This is not necessarily the safest way to power an alarm system either. If the power goes out then you will not have any power for the alarm in the case of a fire. Since many fires in the home are electrical fires this makes no sense.

There are some hard wired units that also have a backup battery. This could be the evil of both worlds. The power goes out and the battery has not been changed. You still do not have a functional fire alarm.

The other problem is all of these units are designed to warn those that are in the house of the danger of a fire. If you are trapped in the house in a fire and your battery operated alarm goes off this will do you no good.

The problem with all of these devices is that they do nothing to bring the threat of fire to anyone besides those inside the house. Sure they will possibly be heard by a neighbor if they are located within hearing distance and they are hone. Obviously if the neighbors are not home then no one except those in the house are aware of the danger.

Fire alarms systems should provide someone who can provide help with a warning of the danger. It would make sense that this warning go out to someone who is monitoring the system and contact the fire department. Alarm systems that incorporate a monitoring company provide the best possible protection in the case of a fire. These services staff their monitoring stations 24/7/365. These services are there to help when it is needed. This is what affective fire alarm systems do.
