The word “Otaku” is a loanword taken from the Japanese language and is used to describe someone with an obsessive fandom in a certain hobby or interest. The word has become uniquely attributed to those who love anime and all forms of Japanese animation and culture. The word is now internationally recognized and attributed to fanboys and fangirls of anime globally.

Having inspired new waves of media and art and reinvented plenty of old ones. Japanese anime has redefined the way the world looks at animation and perceives the cultural impact of what would have once been considered “cartoons”. Anime has established animation as an art form.

The term “Otaku” is taken from a Japanese phrase and is used to describe one with an interest or passion that is obsessive and deep. Western fans of Manga Okatu have proudly attributed this term to themselves to describe their love of Japanese animation and the word can seen commonly in many communities and social circles.
